Clouds Ahead Presentation and Industry Panel Discussion ... A Sign of Positive Change To Come
2/23/2010 9:10:00 AM
Consider this analyst's definition of cloud computing as IT infrastructure for rent, anywhere or anytime, at WalMart (or realistically, Amazon.com) prices. Storage on demand, computational horsepower, or virtual workspaces accessible from any Internet portal, is becoming reality based on emerging commercial cloud computing offerings. Imagine mega-pharma IT infrastructure capabilities without the need to buy any computer hardware or maintain an IT department. Although somewhat of an exaggeration, the emergence of cloud computing can be expected to change forever the nature of IT infrastructure within the life sciences industry. Although many areas will be slow to adopt (i.e., clinical IT) based on regulatory compliance concerns, other areas can be expected to advance quickly as companies seek to streamline infrastructure costs, improve efficiencies, and increase collaboration. Several trends can be expected to contribute to the adoption of cloud computing by the life sciences industry, helping to carry the industry forward into the future.
This session will include a panel discussion.

World Premier Keynote Presentation - Using Data to Accelerate Clinical Trials
2/23/2010 2:00:00 PM
Expediting clinical research and new product launch is a core focus of every life sciences company. With increased merger and acquisition activity, many organizations are operating in new geographies that demand compliance to a myriad of regulatory requirements. Monitoring trials has become more difficult as they conduct multi-center trials with new partners, CROs and hospitals. The anticipated explosion of patient data that will come with EDC and EMR adoption must also be considered. This new environment introduces a maze of complexities in clinical trials. With a typical Clinical Development operation mapped with multiple applications, many of which work in silos, distilling usable intelligence to monitor real time data is a growing global nightmare in the industry.Life Sciences organizations can minimize the complexities of their clinical trial partner ecosystem through integration of disparate systems. Integration will yield timely data visibility and accuracy ensuring the right decisions to accelerate trials. This keynote will talk about some of the trends, challenges and evolving solutions in this space.

Pharma's Biggest Revenue Opportunity - Preventing Revenue Leakage
2/23/2010 3:40:00 PM
Revenue lost throughout the later stages of product life-cycle management (PLM) is a silent killer for many pharmaceutical companies. Inefficiencies surrounding reconciliation processes and reverse logistics allow billions of dollars to leak out as products move through the delivery channel, largely caused by six major leakage points including chargeback discrepancies, duplicate chargebacks, omitted reverse chargebacks, return discrepancies, rebate errors, and concealed shortages. Companies are losing 5% of their revenue annually due to these issues. This session will present these leakage points in detail, examine why companies are so exposed, and discuss how companies are working to prevent leakage.

Connecting the eClinical Ecosystem - Moving from Point Solutions to Business Connectivity
2/23/2010 3:40:00 PM
In their ongoing efforts to improve operational efficiencies, cut costs, and accelerate time to market, life science companies are seeking to better connect clinical data (both scientific and operational) to improve the flow of information across applications. By doing so, companies are finding that they are becoming better able to manage all parts of the clinical development process, including process workflow, drug safety issues, regulatory submissions, people, and costs. In addition, as companies redefine core competencies within the organization, data interconnectivity is enabling companies to efficiently outsource non-core activities as needed. Several factors are diving this convergence, including vendor bundling of eClinical solutions, improved interoperability based on CDISC standardization, enterprise systems integration efforts, and near-term demonstrable ROI. This session will examine the eClinical ecosystem and describe emerging best practices leading industry change.

Outsourcing in Life Sciences
2/23/2010 4:45:00 PM
In the shadow of impending patent expirations and evaporating blockbuster revenues, life science companies have strategically taken a hard look at which areas are truly strategic to the business. This has resulted in the rapid growth in the outsourcing and off-shoring of once core activities, including research, development, and manufacturing. The outsourcing trend shows no signs of slowing and the market has evolved numerous service based businesses in support of this trend. Whether it's clinical trials, integration of increasingly complex and massive data stores, API manufacturing, call centers, or IT infrastructure, outsourcing is expected to play an increasingly important role in the new drug development paradigm.
